My background in Sand Tray work:
I was introduced
to Sand Tray work in 1983 when I met and studied under Evalyn Dundas, PhD. She was one of the earliest therapists using Sand
Tray. Dr. Dundas was a contemporary of Dora Kalff and I consider them both the 'mothers' of Sand Tray work.
It was my honor to take training and to do my own personal work in the Sand Tray with Dr. Dundas. She was the author
of several books on the early years of Sand Tray work. However, her main strength was in 1:1 teaching and DOING the work with
clients.
Over the years, I continued taking classes and training in the use of Sand Tray; working under Dora Kalff,
Hal Stone, Gisela de Domenico, PhD; and most recently recently with Evelyn Leslie at the Colorado School For Family Therapy. These
and other gifted therapists and the clients that I have worked with have taught me a great deal about using the Sand Tray
as a therapy tool. I have used Sand tray in my work as a therapist for many years.
It is critical to note:
no amount of reading, or hearing lectures about Sand Tray can replace
doing your own personal Sand Tray work! You will not recognize and honor the POWER of the Sand Tray until you, yourself have
experienced working in the Sand Tray.
In my Sand Tray trainings, I offer extensive opportunities to therapists,
teachers, social workers and child care workers to DO THEIR OWN SAND TRAY WORK. The trainings are highly experiential
in nature. In the training classes, participants will do their own work under the guidance of a therapist who has
done many hours of my own Sand Tray work. The training sessions offer a safe and nurturing place to explore the Sand Tray
on a deeply personal level.
Sand Tray work promotes healing from deep within a person doing the work. It is NOT
a form of therapy where 'something is done TO the person doing the Sand Tray', but rather the tool helps the
Sand Tray builder 'pull from inside themselves' the healing and solutions to personal issues.
I invite
therapists and other interested professionals to come to Cripple Creek and experience for themselves the power of Sand
Tray work.
The Sand Tray Workshop offered July 2008 was a highly productive and powerful learning
experience for all participants.
The next Sand Tray workshop will be scheduled for August 7th,
8th, and 9th, 2009. Please e-mail for more information.
Introductory Sand Tray Workshop :
Day 1: Introductions. Background and information about Sand Tray. Demonstrations
using role playing participants. 5 hours of instruction.
Day 2: 6
hours of instruction and demonstration of Sand Tray with workshop participants either doing their own personal work or a role-played
sand tray with therapist, Claudia Alonzo. Due to the intensity of the work done, a lunch break of 1.5 hour is held held
off-site giving participants some time to process their work.
Day 3: Participants role-play
the use of Family and Couple Sand Tray work ; personal experiential work is offered workshop participants.
Additional On-going Training for Therapists completing the Introductory Class:
Personal
and individual work over a weekend with therapist Claudia Alonzo can be scheduled to meet your needs. Or, you are welcome
to join a group of therapists working together over a weekend doing case consultations.
NOTE: Workshop participants may choose to stay in dormitory type accomodations at $35.00 per night,
or stay in a local B&B or hotel. Most meals will be provided at reasonable fee for workshop participants.
For further information, please contact Claudia Alonzo at
719 649-4684 or cccc@ccvnet.net
Advanced Sand Tray Work:
Sessions can be arranged for those seeking
additional opportunities to practice their own personal Sand Tray work and do case consultations. Fees to be determined
according to the needs of participants.
Note: the Sand Tray training that I offer is
the result of a process that I have developed over the course of 25+ years of doing Sand Tray Work. There are various
'styles' and methods used by therapists doing work in the sand tray. My methods are my own and are sometimes 'directive'
and/or very interactive. Your questions are encouraged and welcome!
